Education in Israel begins at a very young age in order to support not only physical development but also social-emotional and language development.
33% of the population in Israel consists of children under the age of 17. The majority of children aged 2, 3, and 4 attend preschool programs funded by the local government.
In addition to municipal kindergartens, there are also day care center programs operated by women's organizations, as well as private kindergartens. All these programs are called "GAN."
How is the "GAN" program organized in Israel?
The combination of municipal organizations, civil society, and private partnerships has created solid and harmonious foundations for the education and well-being of young children.
The educational approach of the GAN methodology encourages children to grow confidently by focusing on their individual strengths and developing each child's personal perspectives.
The preschool cycle for 5-year-old children is mandatory. Overall, the curriculum of the GAN model aims to equip children with fundamental skills, including language and numerical concepts, foster creative and cognitive abilities, and promote social skills.
The curriculum is structured around 7 areas of activity
- The "GAN" program places special emphasis on learning through play. According to the GAN philosophy, play represents freedom. Nothing is more serious than play because, in play, the child feels present and important, and through it, they discover their points of balance.
Multicultural education is one of the strongest points of this program, which positively coordinates the ethnocultural diversity that is very present in the population of Israel.
What brings the "GAN" program to the heights of success in early childhood education is the construction, establishment, and analysis of three simple questions.
How is the "GAN" program being implemented at SHALOM CENTER ALBANIA?
In Albania, the GAN program has been successfully applied for several years at the SHALOM Center Albania kindergarten. "Shalom Albania" is the only preschool institution in the Western Balkans that operates according to the Israeli "GAN" model, materializing in education the history of friendship between our two peoples during difficult times. It will soon be extended to Kosovo as well.
In the era we live in, where violence is quite present, the kindergarten institution should represent the possibility of a world without negative aspects, of a society without conflicts, by focusing on comprehensive education, understanding of the community, and the value of solidarity.
The three fundamental questions of preschool education
- What do children want from kindergarten?
- What do parents want from kindergarten?
- What does society want from kindergarten?
