When a child is born, they have billions of brain cells. As the baby develops, these brain cells form connections with each other. When babies listen to music, especially classical music, they create strong musical connections in the brain. Over time, continued listening to classical music actually changes the way a child’s mind works. Listening to music can help the brain perform many important tasks more easily and with greater ability. Listening to music helps the brain orient itself more easily in space and time.
Why classical music?
Classical music has been shown to have the greatest impact on creating brain connections in children because of its very complex musical structure. Studies have shown that babies as young as three months old can identify specific structures in works by composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach. It is this complexity that leads researchers to believe that classical music is the best music for brain development, as children who are exposed to music early and frequently perform better in math and social skills, emphasizing the connection between the pathways created by listening to music and brain function.
The Baby Bach project brought together musicians from the Artistic High School, the Albanian Radio Television, and the Shalom Kindergarten in Tirana.
